Aloha kākou!
For this release, we pay tribute to the legendary Les Murakami and the story behind one of the most iconic color combinations in Hawai‘i sports history: green and orange.
Most people recognize the colors, but fewer know the story behind them.
During the early days of University of Hawai‘i baseball, the program barely had enough funding to survive. There were no major facilities, no polished operation, and no proper uniforms. Coach Les did what local people do best — he found a way to make it work.
At the time, Les was also involved with the Sheridan AC AJA baseball team. Rather than allowing UH to take the field in worn-out gear, he removed “Sheridan” from the uniforms and replaced it with “Hawai‘i,” while keeping the original green, orange, and white color palette intact. What began out of necessity eventually became part of the identity of UH baseball itself. That same “Sheridan Orange” would go on to become permanently tied to UH baseball and to the legacy of Coach Les Murakami.
The colorway is rooted in humble beginnings, ingenuity, and local baseball culture. It serves as a reminder that some of Hawai‘i’s greatest traditions were not built from excess, but from making the most out of what was available.
With that being said, we introduce our UH FITTED in our dubbed Murakami colorway, featuring green all-around uppers paired with an orange undervisor. Meeting UH's modern logo with recognition of the past.
In addition, we will also be releasing our FH RETRO A-FRAME SNAPBACK in the same inspired colorway, this time incorporating chrome detailing and chrome trucker mesh into the mix for a slightly different approach.
Lastly, we have our Brigante tees available in both our premium standard body and women’s boxy tee body. For this release, we incorporated our additional thief's theme pattern while matching the signature colors of the collection throughout the design.
This one is for the old Manoa nights, aluminum bats, and packed crowds at Les Murakami Stadium.
