Aloha kākou!
This Saturday, we continue our seasonal delivery with the next release from our A/W Tradewinds Collection. Our natural tradewinds are unique and special to our islands, evoking a welcoming and affectionate reaction when they breeze through. Frequently described as a “natural air conditioner,” we not only look forward to the trades for the cool climate it brings, but also as a signal of calm and pleasant weather for outdoor activities such as surfing, fishing, or boating, which all heavily depend on great weather conditions.
For visual inspiration, we look to the old Hawaiian olelo noʻeau (proverb): “Ke kupu, o ka ʻaina ua malie, ua au koaʻe,” which translates to “The natives of the land declare that the weather is calm when the tropic bird travels afar.” The koaʻe (tropic bird) thus became symbolic as a sign of great weather when soaring far out at sea. Throughout the collection, there are numerous references to the koaʻe, along with nautical elements and climate map imagery, to help strengthen the overall aesthetic vision.
Two new patterns were created based on a climate map of the Pacific Ocean—TRDWND_EARTHBLUE and TRDWND_BLACKNIGHT—showing the wind direction as it flows during the hoʻoilo (wet) season in Hawaiʻi. We’ve also put extensive focus and care into our cut & sew program, introducing new pieces throughout the collection that are geared toward highly technical construction through our new TropTech tier, as well as premium lifestyle construction through our new OutFitted tier. And as usual, all items from this A/W Tradewinds Collection are limited in size and quantity and will not be reproduced.
TransPac Unstructured Strapback – Navy
Our newest private label strapback comes in navy and features the Hawaiian flag embroidered on the front, along with a white side crown and white “Aloha Served Daily” stitched on the back above the adjustable strap. The left side features an F next to the stylized F nautical signal flag. Above that are the latitude/longitude coordinates for a geographic area known as Kou in ancient Hawaiʻi, one of the original names for the city of Honolulu.
Peak Pullover Hoodie – Heather Grey
We’ve redefined our Peak Pullover Hoodie that we first introduced on Black Friday, 2015, and we’re reintroducing it under our new TropTech division of our cut & sew catalog. This newly reconstructed version contains the same premium dry-fit material that specializes in moisture management throughout various weather environments, and the same crafted fit that was included in last year’s release, but with a few enhancements including a new tri-lock label patch on the back of the hood, mil-spec hood drawstring with heat-shrunk rubber aglets over knotted ends, and most notably the new breathable vented mesh seams down the arms and sides. It features the TRDWND_EARTHBLUE pattern printed along the upper back and on both sleeves, with the Breezy FITTED logo on the front left chest and our crest and Honolulu’s original latitude/longitude coordinates printed on the center back. Other details that carried over from the original Peak Pullover Hoodie include the large triangle gusset on the back, raglan-style sleeves, contoured bottom hem, ASD tri-lock tag stitched to the bottom left, and a kangaroo pocket on the front.
Basin Premium Tee – Navy
Our Basin Premium Tee returns this season under the newly defined TropTech label due to its technical activewear properties. This time around, the season shines through with the TRDWND_EARTHBLUE pattern on the large tri-lock gusset on the back. The navy dry-fit tee also features contrasting yellow tri-lock side seam inserts and a yellow tri-lock stitched inner tag. A small FITTED logo is printed on the back above the tri-lock gusset, and to the left is an ASD tri-lock tag stitched into the yoke. It also features a contoured hem in the back with a straight hem in the front.
