Aloha kākou!
Saturday’s FITSTRIKE release consists of a new Kamehameha snapback and brand new tee illustrated by our friend Big Island Mike (check the story below). The Kamehameha features a beetroot base with gray undervisor, white eyelets, white top button, and white snap closure. The front logo is stitched in white, while the side and back logos are stitched in yellow. The SMA tee features a FITTED twist on old school Santa Monica Airlines skateboard graphics, printed on a black tee.
Moʻolelo by Cuzzo:
Introducing the SMA tee for FITTED by Mike Castillo, also known as Big Island Mike. I’ll let him tell you the story of how he got that moniker since he’s originally from Makakilo on Oahu, but let’s just say Mike has been down with FITTED since before day one.
Back in the late '80s and early '90s, he was the BMXer in our skate crew getting RAD before he headed off-island to make waves with the best of the best in the industry. Beyond the bike, Mike was always the one documenting our crew, especially during that golden year of 1990 at the Hickam Hangar. I’m actually still in possession of some of those photos today, and they are absolute treasured gems.
Mike’s artistic touch has always been evident, whether through his photography, graphic design, or silk screening. These days, you can find him tattooing out of his own shop in Waikiki, so be sure to go check him out. He’s been a force in the scene since '89 when he started his own island streetwear brand, WHERE WEAR, handling everything from the art to the printing and photography solo. IYKYK.
He’s a true one-man show with a deep love for the culture, and you’re just as likely to bump into him around the island as you are across the globe. We’ve collaborated with Mike many times over the years, so there’s a good chance you already have some of his fine art in your FITTED collection.
For the SMA tee, we drew inspiration from the godfather of OG street skateboarding, Natas Kaupas. His early skate graphics are easily some of the most iconic of that era, and Big Island Mike did not disappoint when putting the FITTED twist on one of my personal favorites. Rippah Shreddah!!!
