Our Spring/Summer 2015 Delivery continues this Saturday with more items from the Weight of a Picul Collection. In these two seasons, we focus our attention to two of Hawaiʻi’s commodities that have proven to be incredibly important in Hawaiʻi’s socioeconomic growth. ʻIliahi, or Hawaiian sandalwood, dynamically shifted our economy with the introduction of the trade industry. Koa ushered in a new demand for quality materials in modern times, solidifying its place among the world’s finest woods. The name “Weight of a Picul” stems from the Asian unit of measure that was used when trading the sandalwood in the early 1800’s, defined as “the amount a man could carry on his shoulder” and equalled 133 1/3 pounds.
For this collection, we created two separate Real Tree Camouflage patterns based on the rare and endangered ‘Iliahi Tree and the fine grain Koa Tree, both of which are endemic to Hawaiʻi. In each pattern we strive to highlight the trees for their distinct beauty and importance in Hawaiʻi’s history.
Koa Tree Camo Mua Snapback
This clean Mua features black neoprene on the front two panels and visor, while the rest of the panels feature black spacer mesh. The undervisor and top button are sublimated with our Koa Tree Camo pattern on polyester poplin. Cerulean blue provides the perfect contrast, as seen on the front, sides, and back embroideries, as well as the stitching on the visor. The white snap enclosure completes the look.
Vamp Tee – White
A nod to one of the best ukulele fabricators around, Kamaka, as they commonly use koa wood for its beautiful look and sound. The tee features a small logo on the front left chest and left sleeve, along with a large design on the back.
Ala Waʻa Tee – White
Meaning “canoe course” in Hawaiian, the Ala Waʻa Tee features an illustration of a double-hull canoe on a journey across the Pacific, filled with men adorning makini helmets. The back of the tee features a small black crown.
Along with the seasonal release, we also have a new FITSTRIKE H Pride snapback releasing in-store only. It features a deep navy base with tonal side and back embroidery, along with a white front logo and back snap enclosure.
