This Tuesday, we continue our seasonal delivery with the next release from our A/W Tradewinds Collection. Our natural tradewinds are unique and special to our islands, evoking a welcoming and affectionate reaction when they breeze through. Frequently described as a “natural air conditioner,” we not only look forward to the trades for the cool climate it brings, but also as a signal of calm and pleasant weather for outdoor activities such as surfing, fishing, or boating, which all heavily depend on great weather conditions.
For visual inspiration, we look to the old Hawaiian olelo noʻeau (proverb): “Ke kupu, o ka ʻaina ua malie, ua au koaʻe,” which translates to “The natives of the land declare that the weather is calm when the tropic bird travels afar.” The koaʻe (tropic bird) thus became symbolic as a sign of great weather when soaring far out at sea. Throughout the collection, there are numerous references to the koaʻe, along with nautical elements and climate map imagery, to help strengthen the overall aesthetic vision.
Two new patterns were created based on a climate map of the Pacific Ocean—TRDWND_EARTHBLUE and TRDWND_BLACKNIGHT—showing the wind direction as it flows during the hoʻoilo (wet) season in Hawaiʻi. We’ve also put extensive focus and care into our cut & sew program, introducing new pieces throughout the collection that are geared toward highly technical construction through our new TropTech tier, as well as premium lifestyle construction through our new OutFitted tier. And as usual, all items from this A/W Tradewinds Collection are limited in size and quantity and will not be reproduced.
Kamahele Day Pack – Green DPICT Camo
After almost eight years since its inception, the Kamahele Day Pack makes its triumphant return with all-new materials and a few new details. Starting with the design, we stayed true to the original with the large 30-liter main drawstring compartment, two side zippered compartments, small front zippered compartment with zippered front stash pocket, inner mesh zippered compartment, top lid zippered compartment, and a hidden Velcro compartment in the tri-lock-stitched breathable back mesh padding. The straps also have the same mesh padding for extra comfort, as well as four multipurpose D-rings and a cross-chest harness for added support. The elastic top lid secures the contents with two buckles, while two more buckled straps are seen underneath the bag for additional storage. We used premium construction throughout, with 1000 denier oxford nylon upper covered in green DPICT Camo and red tarpeline covering the bottom for maximum durability in all seasons. We also used high quality YKK zippers with mil-spec paracord pull-tabs and Duraflex side-release buckles for premium strength. FITTED branding details include the new mil-spec label on the right compartment, black tri-lock lash tab with ASD tri-lock tag on the front compartment, and the Aloha Served Daily motto printed on the inside base.
Gully Anorak – Olive
This brand new lightweight silhouette from our TropTech line is perfect for our cool Hawaiian winters. The high-quality 100% polyester construction features quick-drying, water-resistant properties and is versatilely crafted to be worn by itself or layered for colder environments. It borrows signature details from a few of our other cut & sew pieces like the tri-lock velcro adjustable wrist cuffs from the Ahu Laʻi Windbreaker, as well as the tri-lock label patch on the hood, raglan sleeves, and adjustable mil-spec drawstrings with heat-shrunk rubber aglets from the Peak Pullover Hoodie. New to this silhouette are the mesh hood liner printed with the TRDWND_EARTHBLUE pattern, a half button closure, and buttoned side seams. The Gully Anorak also features a large khaki back tri-lock gusset for a nice contrast against the olive base, FITTED branding on the front and back, a kangaroo front pocket, and large nautical symbol flags printed down the left sleeve which read as “FITTED,” stylized with tri-lock fills.
We’re also releasing a new FITSTRIKE Kulāiwi Snapback to coincide with our seasonal release. It features a heather grey crown with a black visor and green undervisor. The top button and eyelets are black, the back crest is stitched in black and white, and the front Kulāiwi logo, side New Era logo, and back snap enclosure are all white.
