KUPALE HAWAII

Aloha.
kū.pale: nvt. Defense; to defend, ward off.
The brand and name Defend Hawaii is now just as synonymous with just about every other local, cult-classic brand that has etched it’s mark on Hawaii’s underground scene. Their themes run anywhere from borderline anti-political messages and even esoteric sovereign issues at times. But the all around message is in the name, which is key: DEFEND HAWAII. Even though most of their designs prescribe a “Get Down or Lay Down” message, there’s a powerful ALOHA stamp behind everything. There’s also a strong physical and visual essence of pride, respect, honor and dignity on almost every design they’ve put out.

Everything said above segues into our next release / collaboration with Defend Hawaii, dubbed “Kupale.” The graphic portrayed on the shirt represents the Bay Of Pigs Invasion in Cuba (better known as La Batalla de Girón). This is an important piece of history, although there were a few minor hiccups. The main purpose of this invasion was to disrupt southern Cuba’s guerilla headed by Fidel Castro, and to also overthrow the corrupt, amoral dictator. Printed on white, it features hands of soldiers raising arms (pun intended) with the Hawaiian flag behind it. Left sleeve features the crown & crest, right sleeve features Defend Hawaii’s logo, and a crown hit on the back.
This will be available tomorrow (Sunday, Apr. 19th) @ 11 AM in our stores (white tee), and at Sindication in Windward Mall (black tee) when their doors open. Big shouts to PKaes!
